The Image of the Soul
Lucrezia De Domizio Durini
(2001)

Being a creative person implies qualities like independence, originality, openness, and intuitiveness and involves the whole being in every aspect of life. When we talk about creativity everything seems to point to the fact that this is a potentiality everybody (or most of the human begins) is born with but which then gets lost, being blocked or buried while civilization, progress, and the pressure of everyday life gradually absorb the person.

There are rare men whose creativity is located in the spiritual area of human condition, which makes life a continual succession of creative acts. Progress and nature live in symbiosis, like energy and splendour of all human and creative actions, performed in lifetime.

Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta is one of those rare men nature has conferred an incommensurable spiritual talent, and noble creativity, the main sense of which is the perpetual development of knowledge, capable of transforming the being for the profitable good of Society.

Pimenta is an architect, photographer, composer, and writer, but most of all he is a good poet, a human poet who, with his versatility, teaches men the majestic dignity of being able to build time's objective truth. A time which has given him the opportunity to penetrate the labyrinth of culture, where constant study is the capital and the raw material of his creative work.

In his youth, he showed interest in the most renowned figures of the past, like Plato, Kant, and Aristotle. These, along with Jung, Freud, and Lacan build the roots of his knowledge and sense of never-ending travel, which brought him from Nietzsche, Wittgenstein, Kierkegaard, and Hölderlin, to the Romanticism of Steiner, Novalis, Schelling, and made him touch the strings of insatiable desire for pure knowledge.

Art has always been a love on its own, which he studied with great passion and interpreted profoundly. Beginning from his interest for antique Art he carried out most significant studies about Contemporary Art with reflexive responsibility and in profound analysis. He has collaborated and worked in symbiosis with many artists. As he has always had a great admiration for Joseph Beuys, he composed music for the latter, creating soundtracks of extraordinary interpretational sensibility.

With the passing of time Art has become for Pimenta an important element of active maturation tending towards the evolution of his artistic, cultural, and social actions.

Architecture is an integral part of his profession, he carries out continually, studying all the historic and contemporary paradigms, elaborating them following his inborn creative intuition and creating in the eighties his great work of art: Virtual Architecture, of which Pimenta is the creator and inventor of its new language.

The project is based upon acute technological research of scenarios made of creational means, which are among the most advanced of present international science, and has become famous in many countries all over the world thanks to numerous documentations, essays, conferences, and publications.

The culture of the past and the practiced theories of new technological languages are the raw material of Pimenta's creative work.

For Pimenta technology has always been an absolute value, an important instrument to weave his creative works with, and a necessary function to transmit music, words, signals, and coefficients, capable of operating in universal culture.

Various books, travels to faraway and extraordinary countries, deeply scientific learning thorough analysis of the new communication technologies, personally lived experiences, the friendship of prestigious intellectuals on many a different paths of knowledge, like René Berger and many others, have stimulated his intense, deep, balanced, and harmonious cultural evolution.

All this fascinating and incomparable culture makes this artist/man a model of rare energy, where the voice of culture reflexes universality of the Arts and of man's creativity.

Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta lives a perpetual project of Cultural Intercommunication, which he has not only theorized in books and essays, but also and mainly spread among people in the international cultural panorama, practicing the famous Concrete Utopia, so intensely preached and exerted by the German Master Joseph Beuys.

His magical passion is turned towards music, intended as verticality of the ego, as invisible language of thought.

As a disciple of John Cage, he has learned from his friend/teacher how to transform mysterious silence of sound and noise into a new vocabulary of music, where renowned men, like Merce Cunningham and others, are passionate visionaries of figurative transformations of excellent metaphors.

The music of Pimenta is a soundtrack for Beuysian documents, illustrations of memories, conceptual aggregations of thought, will, and action.

Music is the profound attraction, which has ravished the dreams of his childhood, where the abstract, associating with the concrete, reveals wisdom, interpretation, and ineffability of personal perceptions, tonalities, and magical harmony.

The Composer of sounds of the soul.

An Artist who lives his music like a form cut out in time.

The eternal image, which sends his message of love among the people of the present.

His music fixes historical relations of the past, in order to find and rediscover harmony, symmetry, proportions, and order of the natural world. In his life music is a constant presence, controlled, sensory, deliberately on the verge of every paradigm. The current studies in transformation have led the composer Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta to a new research, a form of plastic language of sound, which makes him a man of rare creative qualities.

Music is the love of beauty... Who has a musical soul can love the people. (Plato)

The two travelling companions, the flute and the camera, play an important role in the cultural and personal life of Pimenta.

The former is a daily exercise of thought as act of faith for the soul, a gesture of an interiorised act, which gives life a meaning day after day.

A life of religiousness, where family, human values, suffering, joy, success, feelings, and friendship acquire a sacred connotation and live in compared analysis with the passing of time.

For Pimenta Time is the intellectual construction of a likely future.

His magical flute scans the perception of an infinite time, of an eternal certainty, of an equilibrium, which assures harmony. A pre-eminence of prayer, a ritual, which crosses elusiveness and interacts only with the Arts he interprets with universal meanings.

Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta sees the camera as an activity of the soul, which impresses the profoundest feelings, receives and gathers, like an incandescent mirror touched by sun light, the reflexes of the human, nature and the things inhabiting the universe.

He does not use methodological techniques, but removes the figurative triviality from the image, to provide a new soul, a voice which is conscious of the past and analyses the present looking towards the future, however far away from the superficiality of everyday life.

In his pictures Pimenta does not address worldliness, he does not picture figures, but people, penetrating to the dwelling place of feelings, in the darkroom of thought, always trying to cancel every distance of time and space, triviality and deceit.

The Art, which Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta has been professing for many years, is an inspiration of the Good. It produces equilibrium and harmony, improvement of mores, widening of thought, and is a continuous poem trying to convey meaning, always and anyhow, through those friendly faces, which in recent years have been the interlocutors for human glances and smiles for and in universal culture.

Understanding his language requires experience of culture, which can become universal only as far as comprehension subtracts it from the sphere of instantaneous life and capsizes it into universality.

With his objective he focuses a silent, intimate, attentive, but widened communication, where every image is part of a personal story interlacing with the individual project of intellectual life, increasing and developing the area of research which confers uniqueness to the photographic works and intermingles with the entire creativity of Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta.

The tonalities he uses for his compositions are a continuation of his photographic pictures. There is a sweet magic in his creations, which constantly link together different situations. No real analysis, if not formal, gives us the possibility to catch the point of passage in his works or actions, but we know this is always extremely sensitive and acute culture.

Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta is the artist/man who in his creative works plans architecture of the fascinating landscape of the universe.

He composes his seducing notes of life's religiousness.

He photographs the area of man, which Aristotle calls the Form of the Soul.

In these genial creations, he tries send a profound message of spiritual and human reflection, to the world, a harmonious equilibrium, which only Art might and is capable of giving.
