Lecture and First Course on Space Architecture at the University of São Paulo, Brazil

Sao Paulo. Next April 23, 2012, a lecture and the first course on space architecture in Brazil and one of the first in the world, will start at the FAU Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the USP University of São Paulo, in the megacity of São Paulo, Brazil, the third largest city of the world. Lecture and course, both organized by NUTAU - Nucleus of Research on Technology at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo, will be given by the architect and urbanist Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta, who lives between Locarno, Switzerland (his primary residence) and New York City. The director of FAU USP, the architect Marcelo Romero and the visual artist Artur Matuck will present the lecture, which is entitled Kairos - An Architecture in Earth Orbit and coordinated by the Italian architect Bruno Padovano. The lecture will take place at the building of the University on April 23 at 5pm. The course, with a workload of six hours, will take place at the same location between the days 24 and 26, from noon to 2pm. Admission is free and people will be entitled to a certificate of participation. In 2011, Emanuel Pimenta launched Kairos, an architecture design of a space station for exclusively civil, cultural and scientific use, which had exhibitions in Italy and Portugal, and also worldwide through the Streaming Museum in New York City. Kairos was also published in book form in 2011 through Amazon. Emanuel Pimenta coined the concept of "virtual architecture" in the early 1980s. At that time he created the world's first virtual planet, anticipating Second Life in more than twenty years, by which he was awarded with the Lago Maggiore Prize in 1993 by UNESCO, Council of Europe and AICA, in Switzerland. In the last thirty years Pimenta has created several experimental projects, many of which currently belong to contemporary art collections in various countries. Recognized as one of the most representative intermedia artists, an active member of the Academy of Sciences of New York and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Emanuel Pimenta has published over fifty books, many of them in English, several of them currently distributed internationally by Amazon.
