Kairos indicates the idea of "deep time" - a concept that already existed in ancient Sumeria, thousands of years ago.

Kairos is opposed, in some sense, to kronos - which indicates the idea of chronological time, one thing after the other.

Kairos is also the title of my project for a building in orbit of planet Earth. More than a simple architectural design, it implicates a conceptual universe involving a reflection on the metamorphosis of individual and collective consciousness - deep time.

Conscioussness Reframed is an international research conference started in 1997 by Roy Ascott. It is a transdisciplinary forum on art, science, technology and consciousness.

Consciousness Reframed 12 happened at the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon, Portugal, between November 30 and December 2, 2011, joining artists, scientists and philosophers like Roy Ascott, Leonel Moura, António Cerveira Pinto, Stephan A. Schwartz, Blanka Earhart, Luís Miguel Girão, Tatsuo Unemi and Monika Weiss among many others (see the list of all participans at http://artshare.com.pt/cr12/authors/)

Kairos - Deep Time Consciousness, my lecture at Consciousness Reframed 12, is a metalanguage process and collective experience based on the distribution of words in the cyberspace and on the metamorphosis of the archaic concept of human expansion on Earth.

Basically, this lecture - performed at CCB on December 1, Thursday, 2011 - was ellaborated with twenty keywords inserted in an Internet random search. See the complete program at http://artshare.com.pt/cr12/overall/.

Each word corresponds to one minute of speech. Each minute starts with one thought, also collected at random from a database selecting twenty thinkers of the twenthieth century, with five exceptions - that are from other epochs.

Beyond the thought, or philosophical reflection, each minute has a restricted number of words, from one to twenty-two. The distribution of words was established according to a criterium of chance elimination.

Thus, every minute is a small universe generated by one word captured in cyberspace, bringing with it other words, sometimes surprisingly, reflecting a fragment of a collective consciousness present in the hyper telecommunications systems in real time.

The existence of words and silences, establishes another parameter of consciousness.

Each word is treated with up to four different types of letters in nine different bodies, and with three types of treatment in relation to their thickness and inclination.

This complex treatment is taken as indications of interpretation by the lecturer - subtly altering the relationship between words, and interfering with what we might call consciousness design.

All that makes the lecture an unexpected experience both for lecturer and audience, in an enigmatic exercise of discovery.

Excepting the key-words, no other word of this lecture was written or thought by me.

The old concept of human expansion on planet Earth was connected to close packages of information, like the book.

Now, human being is everywhere - leaving no longer any room for expansions.

Classical war is a typical tool of human expansion on Earth. Without expansion, Humanity will tend to define new civilization tools.

In parallel to the lecture we will have a twenty minutes version of the movie KAIROS - on the architectural design for the orbital building - and also be the audition of my musical concert SETI - made exclusively with extraterrestrial sounds.

In December 2, 2011, the lecture was included in this website. Click here to download it.
