in memory of Maria de Lourdes Sekkef
to Edson Zampronha
       the music score

MARS is a solo piano composed at the end of 2010. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, when I lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil, I studied with a wonderful music teacher, Maria de Lourdes Sekeff. She was a lovely person. Interestingly, we both received the Association of Art Critics, linked to AICA, in the same year, in 1986. In classes and lectures her son, Edson Zampronha, was always present, then a fifteen years old boy or so. Today, Edson is a renowned composer. In 2008, Maria de Lourdes Sekeff passed away. MARS was composed in her memory and dedicated to Edson Zampronha. The piece is entirely composed after images from a specific area of the red planet, known as Solis Planum. The composition lasts for sixty minutes.
