William Anastasi is one of the most important conceptual and
abstract artists in the United States after the Second World
War. His works are included in collections of MOMA, Metropolitan
Museum, Whitney Museum, New Museum and many others in Europe.
He inspired the beginning of artists like Christo, Sol Lewitt
or Carl Andre among many others. In the 1980s John Cage introduced
him to Emanuel Pimenta, and they became friends forever. In 2002,
Emanuel Pimenta started filming him in New York City. After ten
years, Pimenta finally concluded the movie. It will be premiered
at the Abstracta Internacional Film Festival
in Rome and simultaneously at the Streaming Museum in New York City, in
September. ANASTASI shows a path of one of the most creative
artists in the last decades, through his mind and his method.
Both Emanuel Pimenta and William Anastasi were close friends
of John Cage.

John Cage's only film, created in his last years of life, ONE
is a "film without subject". In this work, John Cage
works exclusively with lights and movement. The soundtrack of
his movie is 103 for orchestra, one of his last works, of 1991.
The music is performed by the WDR Symphony Orchestra Köln,
with Arturo Tamayo as director, and by the Spoleto Festival Orchestra,
with John Kennedy as director. In the description of this movie
we can find: "There is light, but no persons, no things,
no ideas about repetition and variation. Chance operations were
used with respect to the shots, in black and white".

William Anastasi è uno dei più importanti artisti
